Dominant First Half Display seals the win!

Despite a brave rally by the visitors, Bury had done enough to earn the points....Roving Reporter Richard Edge kindly supplied the details.

Bury soon got back to winning ways after a disappointing performance last week in Bristol with five tries in their bonus point win.
Barnstaple started the match strongly and took the lead with a penalty from Parks.Bury soon found their feet and equalised with a penalty through McBride. The Bury pack worked hard in the loose with Bixby making a good break before Lord ran through the Barnstaple defence following a great chip through to score. Bury now began to take control of the game with scrum half Ashby linking well with McBride on his home debut.McBride showed composure and there soon followed another Bury try from Kohler. The home side were now looking very dangerous on the counter attack and more scores seemed likely. After a strong run by Browne, the home team surged forward towards into their opponents half, but it was some good defence by Barnstaple that led to a long penalty for the visitors from Parks. The score line soon reflected the home sides confidence and winger Corcoran scored a well taken try in the corner converted by McBride.Honey kicked a long penalty and the home side had a very healthy lead.

Half time score 25-6.
Barnstaple had to hit back if they were to remain in with a shout of winning or even gaining a losing bonus point, but it was Bury who surged forward again through McBride. The number 10 was again outstanding and he made some powerful breaks, one of which was finished off with a well taken try by Lord. Multiple replacements followed from the visitors and it was now Barnstaple that hit back. Playing with a new urgency they scored three well taken tries with number 11 Speare cutting a great line and showing a good turn of speed to score near the post. Corcoran also added another great score for the home side during the Barnstaple revival, scampering seventy meters for his second try of the day. Despite the late rally it was a comfortable home win with the result never in doubt. It was only after the home side achieved their bonus point try that Barnstaple really threw caution to the wind in an attempt to gain a losing bonus point.

Final score 39-25
