Wolves - A tight win to start the the season off
By Steve Newman
Player/manager Sam leads the charge
A Good start to the season on a gloriously sunny day on the road in Norfolk.
As usual Diss were generous hosts allowing Sam Dean to open the scoring after Bury's sustained early attacks followed by Stephen Woolard barging his way through, ably converted by Stuart Turner to put Bury 14-0 up after the first 20 mins. Bury showed good work around the ruck and in the scrum creating forward moving ball for the backs to create many new
Que Diss's resurgence, attacking on the turnover having understood Bury's tactics they attacked down the right flank to bring back the try count to 2-1 and followed up the rest of the 1st half on the front foot and despite strong tackling again broke through on the flank and using there colts pushed over for anther try just before half-time, this time converted.
With the slope in their favour Bury made inroads into the Diss half, and looked to push for more tries, unfortunately the Diss No.13 was reading our game well and made many telling interceptions creating an early try, From the restart Bury again pressurised the Diss play into making mistakes which weren't quite finished off, and again the Diss 13 managed to snaffle the ball and started another run ending in a try for Diss. At this Bury again pushed and gained control in the forward battle and quick hands, a small break and off-load saw Mike Jenkins jink his way under the post for Bury's third try. Diss were still pushing out wide and came back with yet another try. Into the last 10 mins Bury really looked to comeback and win this game both through individual efforts and team-work, although Diss played their part in keeping the status quo. With what turned out to be the last play of the game the forwards regained control setting up the backs to break through and slipping a neat pass to CJ (Connor Jacobs) supported whilst he sprinted for the line out wide. Stu Turner having converted all tries so far slotted over the conversion from a difficult position to win the game.
Well done to the whole squad, team work came through to give you a deserved victory. Our thanks to the Diss squad for a good clean game and to the Ref Godfrey Bancroft for his particular brand of good humour throughout.
