Tidy Cup win!
By Steve Newman
A friendly half-time chat seemed to do the trick!
Playing at fullback Jack Johnson crossed the Cantabs line after 9 mins to put Bury into the lead, converted by Stu Turner, 7-0. Cantabs replied on 16 mins with a try of their own, converted to tie the scores at 7-7. With play going to and fro it took a good passage of pressure from Bury to set up scrumhalf Ben Dean to break through and score on 23 mins, conv missed 12-7. Bury then seemed to go through a lull making Cantrabs look the better side, a lot of individual play which nearly always ended with them losing the ball, watching the frustration of the players was evident for all to see. Half time couldn't come quick enough for some.
Half time: 12-7
A quick chat in the break and a little re-organisation seem have worked, Bury now functioning as a team whizzed in 4 tries using pace, team work and their obvious talent to put the game beyond doubt in the space of 12 minutes, the first from Henry Lord out wide to the right after 5 mins, conv Stu 19-7, quickly followed by JJ, after 8 mins, conv Stu 26-7, Corey Button after 12 mins conv missed 31-7 and then Ryu now orchestrating the attacks at scrum half at 17 mins, conv missed 36-7. Cantabs fought back and through their defence and Bury's last pass problems the score remained at 36-7 until the last couple of minutes of the game when Ross Taylor finished off a move with incredible speed to end the game on a high note , conv missed 41-7.
The pack today worked hard to provide through the tight and open play in attack and defence to provide the platform for the backs to shine as they did. Good teamwork!
Full Time: 41-7
Many thanks to Referee Ryan McAllister, it all work well under his guidance, (again).
