Raging wind and a defence to match.

When is an egg not an egg?

On a particularly windy day winning the toss made a huge difference. Facing the elements in the first half Bury kept a strong Cambridge side at bay right down to inches from their line, and showed real team spirit to maintain a clean sheet. It was an enthralling half only to be bettered by the second part to our weekend's entertainment. 0-0
Bury started the second half with a bang, chasing down the kick-off, winning the ball back and after a couple of quick rucks spun the ball wide out to Ben Hunt who wind assisted sprinted around the cover to score close to the posts, with Stu to convert, 7-0 after only 3-4 mins, amazing!
The wind strength being high Bury struggled with the re-start, Cambridge's chaser having figured out the situation first recovered the kick and set about trying to make amends for the early try. Despite getting within touching distance Bury's try line, their will to defend held strong, and Cambridge's hands let them down each and every time. Bury managed to convert two close range penalties (Stu) to go further ahead as the game progressed- 13-0 and despite Cambridge recovering each re-start Bury held strong, both in the forwards and out wide in the back line. With virtually no time left on the clock Bury once more pushed into the Cambridge end and after several phases and quick ball to Stu made a break for the line, actively encouraged to pass out wide to the support Stu backed himself and scored under the posts, then added the conversion to conclude the days festivities - 20-0
It would be churlish to pick out individuals as it was such a good team performance, backing each other and support ends in a winning formula. Well done.
Thanks to Cambridge, it was a close game and well played by them. We look forward to the 23rd.

Many thanks to Dan Howson for his interventions in the middle.
