The rolling hills of Halstead providing a steely performance from both sides
Having arrived and warmed up (?) far to early to maintain any form of concentration level, Bury took a step back to re-group, which judging by the first 15-20 mins did the trick.
Receiving the kick from the off, Bury quickly took charge and pushed up the hill, and after only 6 mins they had crossed the line through strong running and quick hands, Conversion missed. From the restart they did the same against a now stunned Halstead side, 9 mins into the game and 12 points up, scored & conv by Stu. Again from the restart Bury forged through Halstead's defence to add another on 11 mins played, scored by Will conv by Stu. Stung into action by this the next 20 mins saw them playing robust rugby, a lax in tackling let their No.10 through to score & conv to make it 19-7. Bury up on the restart spent time building to put the centre in on the 38th min, conv by Stu, only for Halstead to respond with their own converted try to make it 26-12 at half-time.
It was a hot day and half-time for both teams couldn't have come quick enough.
Now with the slope behind them Bury looked to build on the first half performance, after only 3 mins pressure was converted into points with a penalty under the posts, followed 3 mins later with a well worked try closed to the posts, scored & converted by Stu. Halstead responded minutes later with a converted try of their own, followed by another penalty by Bury 3 mins later (Stu), then like the first half there was lots of action but no scoring for nigh on 20 mins, after which through sheer determination by Halstead they broke through for a converted try on 30 mins. With one last play of the game (lineout) a lax throw provided Halstead with a well deserved consolation try (conv) in the dying seconds.
Full time score: 37-33
