Wet day, Wet ball, Wet spectators!
By Steve Newman
Despite the wet day both teams held on well to the bar of soap
Starting the half playing uphill it took only 2 minutes for CJ to finish off the first scrum & quick hands to give Bury an very early lead 5-0. Harwich looked stunned for the re-start but were quick attack the Bury catch
finish off a forward drive and quick hands
again CJ finished off the move after 10 mins for Bury to go 10-0 up. Harwich forward & Bury forwards exchanged drives and tackles for the next 16 mins before Jonno S-S playing at Fly half dived over for Bury's 3rd score on 26 mins (converted Mike J) 17-0. With the backs working well together and trying to move the ball at every opportunity Bury once again drove up and geave them the chance to increase the score with Mike J finishing off the moves putting Bury 22-0 ahead, this was followed by Harwich's first points with a penalty under the posts 22-3, they backed that up with a converted score to go 22-10, clearly unhappy with the soft try, Bury pushed back with CJ finishing off another strong move to go 27-10 at half-time
The second half down hill with Harwich looking a little tired started with a kick directly to touch just as Harwich had done in the first half, this meant it took Bury, through CJ 11 mins to start the scoring again 32-10, followed by Captain Sam 4 mins later 37-10, 3 mins later by Mike J to go 42-10 up, and again by CJ on the 22 min mark 47-10. A little shell shocked Harwich had still maintained their strong forwards play throughout the tries and from the re-start recovered the ball, and using their fowards to batter their way towards Bury's line they scored on the 24th min to pull back to 42-15. Making 2 subs revitalised Bury's attack and Connor R got over the line at 26 mins to go 47-17. Harwich again disrupted the re-start and for ten mins fought hard to push up the hill, rewarded with a try at 37 mins (conv) 47-22. With the game almost over Sean D made the most of his abilities, fought hard to force himself over for the last score of the game. With various conversions from Mike J & Ben D which my very damp paper couldn't reveal the final score was 58-22
Our thanks to Harwich for a good and well fought game in damp conditions, both sides handling and tackle was good to watch and the match refereed well by Trevor White, many thanks to him
A good team game played with spirit and vigour, looking better each week.
