Damp & Windy day, tight game
After a very tight game at Ipswich, Bury were looking to rectify the score line in their favour. Sadly it was not to be, this time.
After brief inter changes with Bury showing ascendancy in the first few minutes, Stu Turner on 10m mins cleared up a loose ball in Ipswich's 22 to break through and score near the posts 5-0, conversion missed.
Ipswich were let back into the game and pushed Bury back into their own 22 and made sure on 15 mins with a converted score, 5-7
Bury had several really good chances of scoring only for a combination of the final pass going astray or just not being made & Ipswich's last-ditch defence holding out.
Half time 5-7
Bury seemed to nod off for the first 10-15 mins to let Ipswich boss the game and barge their way through to score a converted try under the posts, 5-14. Stirred but not shaken, Bury got their act together and at the re-start pressurised the Ipswich into more errors and this time Stu converted the gifted penalty, 8-14. This caused much adding up in the Ipswich team trying to work out the points difference, undeterred they capitalised on the re-start error and after 25 mins scored out wide to go further ahead on the 25 mins, 8-19. The game still not decided Bury gainfully march ipswich back and again forced a penalty 30 mins which Stu duly popped over, 11-19. Unfortunately it was his last play of the game leaving with a rib injury. Only two minutes later Ben Firbank lost his leg/knee in a ruck also departed injured, Playing their last few minutes with a depleted team Bury held out Ipswich's final onslaughts
Final score 11-19
Good points: Off-loads, tackling, scrum & lineout
