Bury St Edmunds RUFC
Framlingham
Sun 3 Sep 13:00 - Friendly Full time

A game of 3x thirds

We only scored 5 trys but converted 4, Framingham scored 6 trys but only converted 1

A very friendly match of 3x 30 min thirds.
Neither side had a full front row so we played uncontested scrums.

Bury were short of Johan, LouisG, LouisD, Harvey, JP, OllieT, Sammy, just to name a few (Sundown festival goers).

Bury kicked off on a very warm, sunny afternoon at 13:01pm however were pushed back into their half and apart from a couple of breakouts play continued in the Bury 20m area until Framlingham broke through the far left wing and scored but with a long difficult conversion attempt only took the 5 points. Bury game back and managed to drive through to the Framlingham 10m line but lost possession and Framlingham ran then kicked it back deep into the Bury area. After a scrum, Ewan kicks clear into the Framlingham half and play continues on the Framlingham 10m line ending with a scrum on the Framlingham 5m line. Fram win the scrum and run it back to the halfway line.

Bury gain possession and Ewan kicks back to the Framlingham 10m line only to lose possession for Framlingham to run it back to the halfway line again before kicking it deep into the Bury half. GeorgeM runs it back into the Framlingham half before off-loading to OscarP who dodges and swerves around the Framlingham backs until being tackled and having to pass out to Robin who can’t quite get to the ball before it goes out of touch on the Framlingham 5m line.

Framlingham regain possession and run it through the Bury forwards and across the pitch to dodge the Bury backs before being brought down in the Bury 10m area. Framlingham lose possession and Robin makes a break back to the halfway line where he is solidly tackled out to touch.

13:31 - 1st third score 0-5 to Framlingham

Framlingham kick off the 2nd third but have replaced many of their older and larger players with younger and smaller players and for the majority of this third Bury have the advantage and play in the Framlingham half. TomP is taken off with and injured leg and Bury bring on a few subs. EthanD is yellow carded and spends 10 mins in the Sin Bin for a tackle which dangerously toppled the Framlingham player. With just 14 players, Bury keep the pressure on Framlingham and TomP returns to the field in time to receive a pass from OscarF who had broken free with Ewan. TomP continues the run down the far left wing to score by the corner flag leaving Ewan with a difficult kick, even more so with the strong, swirling wind that had picked up. (5-5)

With renewed energy, Framlingham push Bury back to their 10m line before kicking clear. Framlingham regain possession and one of their speedy wingers springs down the left sideline to score by the corner flag, with an impossible conversion attempt (5-10).

Ethan returns to the field and Bury drive deep into the Framlingham half, setting up GeorgeM for a great, striding run through the Framlingham backs to score between the posts providing Ewan with an easy conversion (12-10).

Framlingham kick off and are taken off guard by Will’s sprint past their forwards and through their backs before passing to EthanD who completes the final 10m to score between the posts, for another easy conversion for Ewan (19-10).

Bury keep the pressure on, playing in the Framlingham half, but it’s not long before OscarF exploits a gap between the Framlingham 10 & 12 and sprints through dodging their tackle attempts and getting between the posts to score before being caught. Ewan makes the conversion look too easy (26-10).

14:10 – 2nd third score 26-10 to Bury St Edmunds

Bury kick off but Framlingham have their older, larger players back on and seem to run right through the Bury forwards. Bury are pushed back, deep into their half and are continually on the defence. Framlingham thrust forward and score on the far right wing but fail to convert (26-15).

Bury fight back, and GeorgeA makes a break down the right wing, kicking forward but being held back by a Framlingham back, to win a penalty. Framlingham gain possession and kick to the Bury 10m line the drive through the Bury backs and score by the left corner flag for an impossible conversion attempt (26-20).

Framlingham regain possession and once again drive through to the Bury 5m line, before being stalled and having to pass down the right wing to score again by the corner flag for another impossible conversion attempt (26-25).

Framlingham continue the unending pressure and break down the left wing, before crossing to the centre of the pitch to score between the posts to obtain a conversion as well (26-32).

In the dying minutes of the match, Bury manage to drive forward to the halfway line and JoshC breaks down the left wing, dodging tackles and keeping ahead of the Framlingham backs long enough to swing back into the centre of the pitch and score right between the posts to bring the score to 31-32.

Ewan takes his time with this high pressured conversion but easily plants the ball over the bar and between the posts to raise the score to 33-32 to Bury

Framlingham immediately kick off and drive right though to Bury’s 10m line but the Bury defence halts the attacks and brings the ball back to the half way line before the final whilst of the game.
Final score (33-32) to Bury St Edmunds
