Bury St Edmunds RUFC
Sun 29 Oct 12:30 - Friendly Full time

Had it stolen from us in the last play by a Penalty conversion

So so close ...

Sudbury kick off at 12:31 into the bright sun but with the strong wind behind them.

Bury lost possession and Sudbury pushed deep into the Bury half. Maxx tackled and then tackled again to win possession and Pete kicked over the Sudbury pack into the hands of a Sudbury winger, who was immediately tackled by JP. Play continued in the centre of the pitch until Sudbury broke through Bury’s left wing and then ran it between the posts giving themselves an easy conversion (7-0).

Bury quickly reacted and drove Sudbury back to their 10m line, but Sudbury won the lineout and pushed back to the ½ way line where play continued. Sudbury found an opportunity and dashed through the Bury forwards before being held by the Bury backs just 5m from Bury’s touchline.

Bury were forced to defend their touchline until they were awarded a Penalty and Maxx kicked it back up to the halfway line chased by the Bury forwards. Sudbury kicked high over the oncoming Bury forwards and both sides chased the ball over the Bury try line, fortunately Haydn reached it first and touched it down.

Play continued in the centre of the pitch until Bury broke out and managed to drive down their left wing and up to the Sudbury try line, but a ruck formed right beside the Sudbury right post and the referee decided the ball had been held off the ground by Sudbury.

Sudbury kick down the pitch but Bury run it right back and find themselves defending their try line again until they manage to steal possession and are awarded a penalty so kick clear to the halfway line.

Half-time score 7-0 to Sudbury.

Bury kick off at 13:12, into the sun and after some quick changes of possession Bury drive deep into Sudbury half, forcing Sudbury to kick clear and their forwards follow up quickly stealing possession. TommyH manages to tackle the Sudbury flyhalf, then their centre then their winger, stalling the Sudbury break out and Bury regain possession allowing Maxx to kick downfield.

Bury chase and regain possession, JP sprints down the side line before being taken out just 5m from the Sudbury tryline. Will wins the lineout and dives over the line to score (his 2nd this season) near the corner flag. Maxx has a difficult long and angled kick into the sun, but makes it look easy as the conversion is driven in between the posts (his 6th this season) (7-7)

Play continues in the centre of the pitch for a while, until JoshH is injured but after being checked out, continues to play on.

Sudbury push down the right wing and are awarded a penalty just 5m from the Bury try line and drive it over the line to score, but miss the conversion. (12-7)
Sudbury make another break down the right wing and put the pressure back on Bury. They are awarded a Penalty and drive down to the Bury 5m line before being held back by the Bury defence. After crossing the pitch, Sudbury make it through the Bury defence and cross the try line but the Bury forwards keep the ball from touching down.

Once Sudbury win possession again they push forward again until 10m from the Bury try line and once again Bury defend the line, blocking every Sudbury break, until they gain possession and kick to the half-way line which is quickly followed up and Bury kick deep into the Sudbury half. Maxx kicks over the Sudbury squad and GeorgeM dashes through and makes it over the Sudbury try line to score (his 2nd this season) near the posts allowing Maxx to convert (his 7th this season). (12-14)

In the dying minutes, Sudbury push forward until they are 10m from the Bury try line and are awarded a penalty, and opt for the conversion, which they succeed in, leaving the final score as (15-14) to Sudbury.

Zak was voted Bury player of the match.
