Bury welcomed Colchester Junior Academy in a friendly and hoped to capitalise on the home advantage with greater numbers and the wind behind them. However Colchester put up a strong defence from the start and Bury found themselves chasing Colchester as they scored between the posts (0-7). In a break from the half way line, Ben Stephenson supported by Robin Plumridge and Ewan Sherrell shadowed the touch line to score on the left wing. This was converted by Ewan (7-7).
In reply, Colchester were able to break Burys defence and scored again but failed to convert.(7-12)
Burys attack that followed was halted as they went through several phases. Following a line out the ball was taken across the pitch where Josh Dring off loaded to Will Whitaker as he was tackled. Will saw space ahead and with 3 of Colchester in pursuit made for the try line. The conversion went wide taking the score to (12-12) at halftime.
Bury came out in the second half with more confidence. Colchester found themselves defending into their 22 and each time the ball was cleared it was brought straight back towards it. Tyen Muller came on as number 9 and was able to break through to score between the posts. The conversion took the score to (19-12).
Bury kept up the pressure with a driving maul in Colchester's 22 heading for the corner when Toby Johnson broke for the try line just right of the posts. Colchester manage to hold him up for the second time in the game denying Bury the try.
Colchester didn't give up and took the game deep into Burys half but Bury defended well to finish the game (19-12).
