In their final game of the Eastern counties competition, Bury Junior Academy drove 2 hours to Holt for the Eastern Counties Shield Final.
Holt looked strong and well drilled and scored within minutes of their kick off but failed to convert. An early penalty gave Jack Bowyer the chance to score (5-3).
George Ash made a break down the right wing and evaded tackles from two Holt backs to score just right of the posts. (5-8). Holt fought back scoring between the posts and converting (12-8). Bury took the game straight back into Holts 22 where Will Whitaker was able to wrestle through Holts defence scoring just by the posts. Again Holt replied with another try and conversion leaving the score (19-13) at half time.
The second half saw Holt come out fighting and push their lead to (24-13) but Bury were not giving up and saw Jake Twells push through Holts defence the 5 yards needed to land a try under the posts with Jack Bowyer converting (24-20). The teams could not have been more evenly matched but the game went Holts way with 2 more tries taking their lead to (34-20). In their attempts to hold Bury off again their frustrations came through as Ewan Sherrell scored and 2 of Holts team were sent off. With the score now at (34-27) Bury looked like they were in with a chance of evening up the score but unfortunately the time ran out with Bury finishing the runners up. Will Whitaker and Jack Bowyer were selected Forward and Back of the match for Bury with Holts coach declaring it their toughest and best game of the season.
