Bury under 14's host North Walsham for what turned out to be a real thriller!
By Richard Barnes
Bury under 14's overcame a determined North Walsham side on a fantastic spring afternoon which was brilliant end to end game to watch and enjoyed by both sides with Bury narrowly coming out on top!
Bury narrowly edged a thrilling encounter at the Haberden on a glorious spring afternoon. A fired up North Walsham survived early Bury pressure to score a good try out wide. They followed that up with another well worked try before Buryreplied just before the break. A quick tap penalty put Josh Bullingham into space before he found Connor Chacksfield who raced through to score under the posts. Stuart Adam scored the conversion to make the score bury 7 North Walsham12 at half time.
Bury struggled for rhythm and were often second best at the break down and were punished after a good cross field kick, and another score out wide after good work by the Walsham pack took the Walsham lead to 22-7. Walsham remained in control at the scrum giving the bury pack a tough time in that area.
With time running out Bury started to up their game, and following a great kick chase by Alex VDP and Lucas Seaman Josh Bullingham scored to bring Bury back in to the game. The intensity in the rucks improved and Bury piled on the pressure with Connor breaking through to score under the posts with Stu converting to set up a thrilling finish. More Bury pressure saw Josh Bullingham score to give Bury the lead 22-24. Bury then held on to the end. Great spirit from Bury to hang in there and sneak the win. The result was harsh on Walsham who played extremely well, but it was a great game. Good luck to Walsham in the cup next week.
