Bury St Edmunds under 13s v. West Norfolk RUFC – Sunday 17th March 2019, West Norfolk RUFC
By Laura Hudson
Bury let the scoreboard do the talking in a physical encounter.
Bury made the trip north of King’s Lynn on a cold but fine Sunday morning looking to continue their recent fine form. Some great tries and strong team work saw them run out 45-10 winners in what was a physically intense match. Bury can be very proud with how they kept their composure and let the scoreboard do the talking; a lesson that will stand them in good stead as they continue to develop into a very fine team.
With the long season drawing to an end, for the first time this year there were only just enough available players for a team plus substitutes – this led to a number of players offering to play out of their normal positions. Credit should go to Todd Hutchinson and Ben Nevison-Grainger for slotting into scrum-half (a position Bury U13s are usually over-subscribed for!) and Jaspar Dawson who marshalled the game well from fly-half as opposed to his usual position of inside centre. In the forwards, Vincent La Starza and Angus Hudson both played in the front, second and back row – not something many players can adapt to in the same season let alone the same match!
Nico Marchini continued his high scoring season with yet another hat-trick and Vincent La Starza bagged two more tries. Angus Hudson, Will Hudson-White and Todd Hutchinson all scored one each, with a penalty try making up the scoring. Friday night training will be followed by further matches away from home next weekend, so many thanks as usual to all of the players and their committed families.
