All For One!
Earlier in the season a close contest threw up a 17-17 stalemate, therefore entering into today's fixture it was anticipated that we would be confronted with a similar outcome.
From the outset it was evident that the conditions would play their part, as both teams struggled to maintain possession of the rugby ball. In addition, erratic decision making prevented any fluidity, however as the team grew into the game they secured the first points out wide. Closely followed by another score on the opposite side of the pitch. High intensity defence contained the Colchester attack for the duration of the half, even when camped 5m from the line, there was no way through. At half time the score was 17-0 in the team's favour.
The second half presented a similar pattern, Colchester's attack being repelled on every occasion by determined and organised defence. Whilst in attack, displaying a greater cutting edge, scoring 3 additional tries to finish the encounter 34-0 victors.
Throughout the game everyone contributed to the performance. Particularly pleasing was the defence which managed to shut out a determined and committed Colchester team. In attack there were some excellent moments, however greater consistency will be required moving forward. Improved awareness of opportunities and how to successfully execute them, through better support and passing, will elevate the team even further. There are still areas to improve, yet the progress from the start of the season is there for all to see, 20 players playing for each other is also a major statement following the trials and tribulations of last season. Awesome job boys!
Our thanks to Colchester for travelling to Bury on this damp and inhospitable Sunday. Throughout the contest no one stopped or failed to give 100%. Thanks also for provision of a referee at short notice! Finally, thanks to the loyal support who endured the weather, your attendance is greatly appreciated. Next week will see a trip away to play Saffron Walden.
