Bury Under 15’s eventually came out on top on a wet and windy day against a committed Beccles side.
Playing in to a strong wind in the first half Bury found themselves pegged back in their own half and defending their own line. There was much desperate defence to keep Beccles out when a try seemed inevitable. At one stage following a scrum 5 metres from their try line Bury ran the ball securing a valuable breathing space. Gradually Bury asserted themselves in midfield with some powerful running by the centers, before Rhys Parry-Jones scored a superb individual try using both strength and race pace to find a way through Beccles’ defence to score under the posts with Stuey adding the extras. There was some ferocious tacking by both sides, with Samuel taking a heavy knock running the ball out of defence and Will Cameron catching a high one. Eventually the pressure told and Beccles forced over in the corner to make it 7-5 before Bury gifted the visitors a try under the posts on the stroke of half time.
The second half was a continuation of the first with some ferocious rucking, and strong running from both teams. Bury pulled level with some good work by the forwards with Scott going over with great support from Hari and Archie, before Lucas scored a cracking individual try to cap a great performance with Stu knocking over the conversion.
There were some great performances, with Charlie Upright catching the eye at fullback with some great running and it was a massive performance from the pack as a whole which dominated the scrum. however our discipline was not great to say the least, and around the breakdown our rucking was below par and we were turned over more than usual - but fair play to Beccles who were great at the breakdown!
Final score was 19-12 to the Bury Boys, and man of the match was Rhys Jones.
